Freshman Natassja Meredith shot 77-76 to lead the Bobcats to seventh place in the opening day of the Bobcat Invitational. Meredith currently sits in 14th, while Montana State's women's golf team scored 311-310 for a two round total of 621.
"This is a great golf course to prepare us for conference," head coach Brittany Basye said. "The team needs to go out and start strong. I can't stress enough the strong start we need off the first three holes to get our confidence high. They have worked hard and it's time to allow themselves to shoot well. I'm excited to see how they finish out round three."
Kati Greear, the most consistent golfer through MSU's spring, shot 77-77, totaling 154 and sitting in 19th. Haylee Folkvord shot just one stroke higher than Greear and is in 24th place (77-78/155). Lauren Hausauer brought her first round score down by six strokes to shoot 79 for a total of 164. Jaylee Tate shot 80-85/165 for a two round total of 165 and is in 68th place.
Seattle and Wyoming have the top two scores, tying at 600 for the first two rounds. Kala Keitz of Northern Colorado shot two under par to lead the tournament, firing back-to-back 71's in the first day.
Playing as an individual, Janelle Reali shot 77-79 to place 31st after day one. Clare Dittemore is in 55th with a 162 total (84-78).
Montana State will finish out the regular season tomorrow morning at the Golf Course of Estrella in Goodyear, Ariz., with the final round of the Bobcat Open beginning at 8:45 a.m. MST.
