Douglass, Sharp Earn Top Podium Finishes at Weber State

Kyle Douglass and Zach Sharp won their respective events at the Weber State Invitational, giving the throwing pair six total wins on the the season. Douglass was victorious in the discus for the second time this season with a mark of 168-10, while Sharp earned his third first place finish in the hammer, throwing 185-09.
"We had a really great weekend," head coach Dale Kennedy said. "Both of these meets have always been a good test for us and we stepped up to the plate Friday and Saturday. There were some great individual performances, but overall the team performed well at both meets."
Calvin Root followed Douglass and Sharp placing third in both events with marks of 151-11 (discus) and 167-10 (hammer).
In his first career competition in the steeplechase, Justice Lamer won the event, clocking 9:40.56. Ty Mogan and Anthony Schmalz finished in 9:54.38 and 10:23.42, placing fourth and fifth in the event. Zachary Kughn finished fifth in the 1500, crossing the finish line in 4:02.80.
On the women's side, Daryan Box placed fifth in the 100 with a time of 12.24 and Jenette Northey finished second in the 3000 steeplechase, clocking 11:14.04. Layne Oliver finished behind Northey, placing fourth in 11:19.83. The 4x400 relay team found its best finish of the season, winning the race in 3:52.06.
Brittnee Grimstad and Alexandra Rowland continue to show consistency, placing third and fourth in the discus throw. The pair threw distances of 135-11 and 134-00. In the hammer, Jacqueline Verlanic and Callen Crawford marked throws of 172-08 and 171-00 to place third and fourth.
Montana State will take a small roster to California this week to compete in the Bryan Clay and Beach Invitational in Azusa and Long Beach, Calif. The 'Cats will return home on April 23 to host the Grizzlies in the Annual Cat/Griz Dual.
