Indoor Track and Field Passes out Season Awards

Montana State Track and Field announced its annual awards for the 2016 indoor season.
TOP GUN AWARD: Given to the male and female who recorded the most number of points during the indoor season.
JESSICA CHRISP (Jr./Deer Park, WA) – Chrisp placed sixth in the pentathlon at the Big Sky Conference championships, scoring 3,601 points. The sophomore also placed sixth in the high jump and consistently finished in the top five in the high jump, long jump and 60 hurdles throughout the season. She earned PR's in every event and ranks among the top six in school history in the pentathlon.
MITCH HORNING (So./Eugene, OR) – Horning advanced to the finals in the 60 and 200 at the conference championships, placing fourth in the 60 and seventh in the 200. The product of Eugene, OR led MSU's sprinters, earning four individual wins and five additional top three finishes.
OUTSTANDING TRACK PERFORMER:
MITCH HORNING (So./Eugene, OR) – Horning jumped to No.5 in MSU's record book in the 60, running his career-best of 6.92 at the conference championships. The sophomore claimed nine total top three finishes throughout the season in his two respective events.
KAYLEE SCHMITZ (Jr./O'Fallon, IL) – Schmitz was crowned the Big Sky Conference 800m champion just two weeks after she broke the school's record in the event. The junior jumped to No. 1 in the record books, after running an adjusted time of 2:08.44.
OUTSTANDING FIELD PERFORMER:
CALVIN ROOT (So./Gilbert, AZ) – Root threw shot put and weight throw during the indoor season and continuously ranked towards the top of the conference. Root placed third in the weight throw at the championships and finished 11th in the shot put. The sophomore earned a PR of 60-06 in the weight throw at conference, earning his mark at the No. 10 spot in school history.
KYLE DOUGLASS (So./Missoula, MT) – Douglass moved up to No. 5 on MSU's all-time top 10 list in the shot put, after throwing 57-09.5 at the Powder River Duals in Wyoming. The sophomore placed sixth at the conference championships and won five of the eight meets he competed in this season. His mark of 57-09.5 was the best in the conference for the 2016 indoor season.
DANIELLE RIDER (Sr./Billings, MT) – Rider placed second at the conference championships in the pentathlon, earning a PR of 3,844. This mark puts the senior third in school history. Rider also earned her mark in the long jump and 60 hurdles, ranking 10th in both events.
CASEY TESKA (Sr./Stow, MA) – Teska earned the Big Sky Conference title in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 13-01.5. Teska cleared that height on two separate occasions throughout the season, just .25 inches shy of her personal best. The senior won seven of seven meets and earned the best mark in the conference this season.
OUTSTANDING FRESHMAN:
JADIN CASEY (Fr./Stevensville, MT) – Casey showed consistency throughout the season in the 200, 400 and as the anchor leg of the 4x400 relay. The freshman placed fifth over all in the 400 at the conference championships, running a season and career best of 48.77. The week prior to conference, Casey ran a 22.39 second 200, finishing with a season best in fifth place.
ALYSSA SNYDER (Fr./Coalville, UT) – Snyder anchored MSU's distance runner, placing fourth at the conference championships in the 3000 and helping the 'Cats to a sixth place finish in the distance medley relay. The freshman ran a 5:00.05 unconverted mile at the Last Chance Qualifier and earned her best 3000 at conference.
