Rider, Storm Lead Day One of Multi's in Season Opener

HEPTATHLON RESULTS | DECATHLON RESULTS
Montana State track and field opened up the 2016 outdoor season on Thursday afternoon with the heptathlon and decathlon at the Montana State Open. Danielle Rider leads the heptathlon with a score of 3,018, while Mason Storm is in front of the men's decathlon with 3,353 points. The women completed four events and the men finished five, with six competitors on each side from Montana State and Montana.
The heptathlon kicked off with the 100H, where Montana's Nicole Stroot won the event in 14.61. Rider came in behind Stroot clocking 14.92 and Montana State's Jessica Chrisp placed this in 15.01. Carlie Haeffner placed sixth with a time of 19.78.
Chrisp and Rider went one-two in the high jump, clearing the bar at 5-04.5 and 5-02.25. Rider went on to win the next event, throwing the shot put 42-09.5 feet. Chrisp placed fifth with a throw of 31-01.25.
In the 200, the final event of the day, Chrisp crossed the finish line in 26.53, winning the race by .10 seconds. Rider placed third with a time of 26.86.
Rider is currently in first with 3,018, Chrisp sits in second with a score of 2,869 and Carlie Haeffner is in sixth (1,819).
Storm earned three top finishes in the first three events, but remained in the top three for the final two. The sophomore won the 100 in 11.29 seconds, the long jump with a mark of 22-05.25 and the shot put with a throw of 38-09.5. Storm placed third in the high jump, clearing 5-10.5 and placed second in the 400 (55.82). Storm totaled 3,353 points on day one.
Trevor Simanski placed in the top three of four events and currently sits in second place with 3,027 points. Simanski won the 400, clocking 54.40 and placed second in the 100 (11.45) and long jump (21-07.25).
Tristen Gray and Luke Middelstadt also competed for MSU, ranking fourth and fifth with scores of 2,705 and 2,503. Gray won the high jump with a clearance of 6-03.25.
Day two of the multi events will continue Friday at 1 p.m. at the Bobcat Track and Field Complex, followed by the rest of the MSU Open beginning Saturday morning.
