Montana State to Host Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships

HEPTATHLON/PENTATLON | DAY 2 | DAY 3
Twelve teams and a field of 453 athletes will compete in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse over three days in the Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, beginning Thursday morning. The women's pentathlon and men's heptathlon will kick off the meet on Thursday morning at 9 a.m., while the rest of the competition will begin Friday morning at 11 a.m.
Erika McLeod of Montana has the highest mark in the pentathlon of 3,705, but Jessica Chrisp isn't far behind with a career-high score of 3,590. Danielle Rider is only 16 points off of Chrisp, scoring 3,574 points back in January.
Mason Storm enters the meet with the fifth best mark in th heptathlon, scoring 4,908 in the season's opening meet.
The MSU 800 record holder and the reigning conference athlete of the week, Kaylee Schmitz, is the conference leader in the event with a time of 2:08.44 and is expected to be at the front of the pack on Saturday.
Pole vaulter Casey Teska is also at the top of the conference, leading the pole vault with a jump of 13-01.5. Carter Theade will compete in the event, coming into the competition ranked 12th.
Kyle Douglass is expected to place in the shot put, as he's leading the conference with a throw of 57-09.5. Zach Sharp and Calvin Root will battle at the top of field in the weight throw, ranking third and fourth in the conference.
Mitch Horning will lead MSU's sprinters, qualifying in the 60 and 200, ranking in the top 10.
Montana State's distance crew has continued to improve as the season progresses, with Diego Leon leading the way ranking fourth in the 3000 and sixth in the mile.
Both men's and women's teams were picked to finish third in conference at the beginning of the season, while NAU's men and Sacramento State's women were the coaches top picks.
