Reali Leads Bobcats in Opening Round at GCU Invite

Janelle Reali shot seven over par in the opening round at the Grand Canyon University Women's Golf Invitational in Phoenix, AZ Monday, leading the 'Cats to a 321 team score. Portland State is currently leading the field at 305.
"We need to remember our games and how to buckle down and control our shots better when we get into trouble," head coach Brittany Basye said. "We can't guide our shots as much and trust our games more. We get quick and it sneaks up on us. On this course, high scores will happen if we allow that."
Reali is tied for 15th, after shooting a 78 (38-40) in the first round, four strokes back from the leader. Kati Greear is two strokes behind Reali, after shooting an 80 (39-41) today. Greear is tied for 36th place.
Haylee Folkvord shot an 81 (41-40), tied for 46th, and Jaylee Tait is sitting in 53rd with an 82 (41-41).
"Each one of these players knows their games and know where they're at right now. We will continue to grind and work hard. We learn from the good and the bad each day and will tee it up again and go tomorrow. I feel confident that we will bounce back. We have our first 18 holes of competition under our belts now and should be able to go play some golf now, just like I know each of them can."
Portland State's Krissy Peterson, Gabrielle Gibson of Wyoming and Kennedy Bodfield of McNeese State share the lead at three over (74).
Round two tee times begin at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow morning at the Grand Canyon University Golf Course.
