Kellen Bates captured a win at No. 1 singles
In the midst of a non-conference men's tennis loss to Montana Saturday, Bobcat coach Jared Burnham found some things to like.
"It was nice to see Kellen play so well," Burnham said of Kellen Bates' win at No. 1 singles, a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 win over veteran Peter Mimnagh-Fleming. "He is playing well, he just needs some confidence. This should be a nice shot in the arm for him. Harry played well, too."
Harry James captured a 6-2, 6-4 win over Montana's Tomasz Soltyka at No. 3. Those two victories pulled the Bobcats even in the match at 2-2, but Montana swept through the lower ladder positions to capture the victory. Earlier, Montana had won the doubles point and captured a victory at No. 2 singles when Semion Branzburg defeated Bobcat freshman Alex Flink.
"It's a process, and we continue to take steps forward and show improvement," Burnham said. "It won't always come as quickly as we want, but we're getting there."
