Cats thankful for practice time over break
The turkey was great, and the down time well-needed. But what Brian Fish was thankful for this week was time in the gym.
"We were in dire need of some practice time," Fish said of his Montana State team that answered a three-games-in-five-days homestand with a quick trip to Houston on Monday. To play 31 games you have to play some of them in a pretty quick time span to get them in, and we did that. But when I went back and looked at tape of the Rice game, fundamentals is where we broke down."
That led to a couple of intensive practice days during the Thanksgiving break, which leads to the Bobcats' home game against Delaware State on Saturday at 2 pm in Worthington Arena. The Hornets have faced a schedule similar to MSU's, falling at Louisiana and Rice on a road trip that has covered seven days and 2,700 air miles by the time the ball goes up.
Fish is impressed by what he's seen from the Hornets. "They're a team that was young last year and went on a lot of road trips. They've seasoned and gotten better, and seem to have gotten comfortable (on the road. They're a very good team."
Guard DeAndre Haywood leads the Hornets with 16.6 points a game, and also chips in 2.8 boards. Devin Morgan averages 13.6 points and leads the team with 20 assists. Delaware State averages 74.4 points a game, shooting 45% from the floor.
"(At Louisiana) they shot it very well (52% from three-point range), and everybody's dangerous when they shoot it like that. They want to be aggressive, they're not scared to score 85 points, they're going to be aggressive and try to attack."
After Saturday's game, the Bobcats turn around and host Arizona Christian on Monday night at 7 pm.
