SEASON-OPENER: The 2016-17 edition of Montana State women's basketball will tipoff where it left off last season on Saturday afternoon in the University of Utah's Huntsman Center. The two teams last met on March 18 in the first-round of the WNIT. The Utes defeated the Bobcats 95-61 in front of 1,239 faithful UU fans. MSU was led in the contest by Peyton Ferris and Riley Nordgaard with 15 and 11 points, respectively. The duo will return on Saturday as seniors with Ferris tabbed as the preseason Big Sky Conference MVP and Nordgaard, a preseason All-Big Sky Conference selection. The Utes were paced by Paige Crozon, Katie Kuklok and Emily Potter, who scored 20, 18, and 13 points, respectively. Crozon, a 6-1 wing, and Potter, a 6-6 forward, return for Utah. Last season, the Utes finished 18-15 overall and 8-10 in Pac-12 action. Under the direction of second-year head coach Lynne Roberts, Utah was picked to finish eighth in the preseason Pac-12 coaches' poll.

BEEHIVE BOUND: The Bobcats will continue their trip in the Beehive State on Monday night against Utah State in Logan. The late start is part of a double-header for USU as its men's squad hosts NJIT at 6 p.m. The Aggies opened their season on Friday afternoon with a 72-49 win over NCAA Division II foe Westminster. USU was paced by Shannon Dufficy with 14 points and nine rebounds. Jerry Finkbeiner is in his fifth season at Utah State where he led the Aggies to a 14-17 overall record and an 8-10 Mountain West Conference ledger, last winter. USU was picked to finish ninth in the preseason MWC poll.

ALL-TIME SERIES: The Utes lead the all-time series with Montana State 9-0, dating back to Dec. 21, 1982. The Bobcats hold a 10-2 advantage in its all-time series with Utah State dating back to the 1977-78 season. The last time the two team met was Dec. 1, 2012 with the Bobcats defeating Aggies 71-65 in Logan.

HOW `BOUT THEM CATS: MSU head coach Tricia Binford, who enters her 12th year leading the Bobcat program, welcomes back six letterwinners, including two starters (Riley Nordgaard, Delany Junkermier), a two-time Big Sky Top Reserve of the Year (Peyton Ferris) and Big Sky Conference Newcomer of the Year (Nordgaard). The Bobcats captured the program's first-ever outright Big Sky regular-season title last season going 14-4 in league play. MSU also welcomes five newcomers.
