Bobcats Open Indoor Season on Friday Evening

Montana State's 2016 indoor track and field season officially begins on Friday evening, as they host the MSU Open in Bozeman. The Brick Breeden Fieldhouse will host MSU, Montana, Rocky Mountain, Carroll College and MSU-Billings, along with a handful of unattached competitors. Throwing events are set to being at 4 p.m. and running events at 5 p.m.
Head coach Dale Kennedy lost 27 letter winners from the 2015 roster, but has a strong freshman class to fill the gaps. Kennedy added talent in all areas of competition, from all over the state and the north west.
The women's team is coming off of a second place finish at the Big Sky Conference Outdoor Championships, where they fell just short of a conference title. Senior pole vaulter Casey Teska will look to compete at the top of the conference, while pentathletes Danielle Rider (Muri) and Jessica Chrisp will fill the shoes that Big Sky Conference Champion and MVP Carley McCutchen left. Rider and Chrisp have qualified for the conference championships in the pentathlon.
Josephine Petruska continues to shine as a standout sprinter and will be joined by Montana Class A state champion and all-state selection Holly Anderson and Class B sprinter Hailey Phillips. Phillips holds six records at Plains High School and was an 11 time individual state high school champion.
Mason Storm, a 2016 BSC championship heptathlon qualifier, is on pace to lead the 'Cats in the multis, while Kyle Douglass will likely anchor the Bobcat throwers. Mitch Horning, Jory Fisher and Eric Zechenelly will provide the depth the team needs in the sprints and mid-distance races, while Jadin Casey and Sam Bloom are added to the mix.
Montana State hosts seven meets this winter, including the Big Sky Conference championship at the end of February.
