Squire, Soratos Advance to NCAA Prelim Finals

Paige Squire and Cristian Soratos advanced to the NCAA Premil finals after competing in the first round in Austin, TX today. Squire will compete in the 400-meter hurdles tomorrow at 5:45 p.m. MST and Soratos will run the 1500 on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. MST.
"Both of these athletes have a great chance to advance to the NCAA Championships," head coach Dale Kennedy said. "They're both capable of running faster than they did today. I'm excited to watch them compete tomorrow and represent Montana State."
Squire placed seventh overall in the first round, finishing second in her heat in 59.13 seconds. Earlier this season, the senior moved up to number two on MSU's All-Time Top 10 list with a time of 58.88. Squire earned three All-Big Sky honors at the outdoor championships in the 100meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles and the 4x400 relay.
Soratos earned the top spot in his heat in the 1500, finishing in 3:49.81. He placed 23rd overall and will compete in the finals on Saturday. Soratos owns two records for the 'Cats in the 800 and the 1500 and was named the Big Sky Conference meet's Most Valuable athlete.
Heather Demorest finished 23rd in the 1500 with a time of 4:27.94, just missing the cut to advance to the finals. Demorest will compete in the 3000 steeplechase tomorrow evening.
Chantel Jaeger finished 29th in the 400, also missing the cut to compete in the finals. Jaeger ended her career as a Bobcat today, leaving behind a mark on the program that will be missed.
"Chantel has been a great part of this program and will definitely be missed," head coach Dale Kennedy said. "The sprinters to follow will have big shoes to fill."
