Strong Finish Boosts Bobcats at Cowgirl Classic

Five sub-80 rounds lands MSU in 11th place
Montana State posted its best three-round total of the spring, firing a closing round 305 to finish 11th at the Cowgirl Classic at Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Course in the Phoenix area on Tuesday.
Sophomore Janelle Reali shot a team-low 75, her highest round of the tournament yet better than any round she fired this spring before this weekend. Her three-round total of 220 was good for a fifth-place tie in the Cowgirl Classic.
All five Bobcats scored below 80 on Tuesday, matching their first-round accomplishment. Freshmen Jaylee Tait and Pari Keller each shot 77 on Tuesday, and junior Kati Greear a 78. Junior Haylee Folkvord's 76 was the team's second-best closing round. "We shot below our average and had our best tournament of the spring," Bobcat coach Brittany Basye said. "I'm happy with the effort of the whole team, they stayed pretty consistent and finished strong."
Montana State's 11th-place finish checked in just three strokes behind Idaho, the top finisher among the nine Big Sky teams in the tournament. MSU finished two strokes ahead of NAU, three up on Sacramento State, five ahead of Montana, and 14 ahead of Eastern Washington. Portland State (931), Northern Colorado (934), Southern Utah (935) and Weber State (955) also competed in the Cowgirl Classic.
The context of rival Big Sky schools takes on more importance, as the conference championship is the next event up on the schedule for many of the league's teams, including MSU. "Now we will prepare for conference and study our stats and set our sights on Ocotillo (Golf Course, site of the league tourney)," Basye said. "It was a good team effort this week and that gives us some momentum."
