MSU golfers face final competition of season
The momentum is there. The lineup is solidified. Sunday, it's time to play.
Montana State heads to the Chandler, Ariz., this weekend for the Big Sky Conference Golf Championships, which begin Sunday at the Ocotillo Golf Club. Tournament play begins Sunday.
"I feel the team is ready to use their individual strengths on this course as far as distances and positioning on the course," said Bobcat coach Brittany Basye. "Course management and making good decisions are so important, and I believe they are ready."
Three of the five Bobcats have some level of familiarity with the course. Kati Greear has played Ocotillo several times, while Janelle Reali and Haylee Folkvord played it last spring during the conference championships. "Jaylee (Tait) and Pari (Keller) have never seen the course," Basye said, "but we've talked to each of them about strategy and playing to their strengths."
Basye said consistency and patience stand as key traits to carry through the tournaments three rounds, played one each on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. "We know what we need to do to put ourselves in a good position," Basye said. "We need to stay consistent and not get ahead of ourselves. It's one day, one hole, and one shot at a time."
