MSU Stands Fifth After Strong Start at Bobcat Desert Invitational

Three players shoot 156 on first day
Montana State rode a strong start into fourth place after two rounds of the Bobcat Desert Invitational in Goodyear, Ariz., on Monday.
The three-round event, which concludes with 18 holes Tuesday, brings together half of the 12 Big Sky Conference teams. All five Bobcats on the scoring team shot below 80 in the opening round and MSU stands fifth after the event's first 36 holes.
"We had a great start, executed some shots and showed more consistency in the short game," said Bobcat coach Brittany Basye. "We slipped a little in the second round, but I look for us to come out (Tuesday) with great focus and consistency and put up some low scores again."
Pari Keller, a freshman in her first varsity action, fired a 76-80 for Montana State. Juniors Jaylee Tait (79-77) and Katie Greear (78-78) joined Keller with scores of 156, good for a 16th-place tie after two rounds. Junior Haylee Folkvord (76-84) and Lauren Hasuauer (79-84) also aided MSU's top five standing. Playing as an individual, Bergen Buck shot an 86-84, and is in 54th place.
The closing round begins at 8 am MST Tuesday at Tres Rios Golf Course.
