MSU hosts Bobcat Desert Invitational
It may not literally provide the comforts of home, but Montana State hosts the Bobcat Desert Invitational Monday and Tuesday, March 30-31, in Goodyear, Ariz.
The Cats head to the Phoenix area sporting an altered lineup, with freshman Pari Keller joining classmate Jaylee Tait and juniors Haylee Folkvord, Lauren Hausauer and Kati Greear as MSU's scoring lineup for the Bobcat Desert Invite. Junior Bergen Buck will golf as a non-scoring player.
"This will be Pari's first time in the lineup as the (number) five (golfer), and I'm anxious to see how she responds," said Bobcat coach Brittany Basye. "We are playing without Janelle (Reali) so the others will have to step up and bring some confidence and good golf to Tres Rios."
MSU's tournament at Tres Rios begins at 10 am Monday. The tournament features 36 holes Monday, and 18 holes to close the event on Tuesday. The par 72 course covers 6,295 yards, and offers a challenge to her squad and force good decision-making, Basye said.
"I think these ladies will have to respond and play their best," she said. "We have had good practices with our short games and really focus on some touchy little chips and what type of shots work from different areas. I think the team has showed more confidence the last couple weeks in their games and I hope they continue to progress in our tournament."
The 11-team field features seven Big Sky schools (MSU, Montana, Eastern Washington, Idaho State, NAU, Southern Utah and North Dakota) along with CSU Bakersfield, Creighton, Grand Canyon and British Columbia. "This is our 'home' tournament so we want to make a good showing and put up some good numbers," Basye said. "I am expecting some really good things from each of our players and as a team to put up a low score to date for us."
