Cristian Soratos competed in the finals of the mile at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championships today in Fayetteville, Arkansas, where he came up just shy of a first place finish. Soratos finished with a time of 3:59.86, behind Oregon's Edward Cheserak who ran a 3:57.94 mile. Soratos finish is the second highest in MSU history, while he earned First Team All-America honors.
"Cristian made a great effort today," head coach Dale Kennedy said. "He has nothing to be ashamed of. Finishing second at this level is something anyone should be proud of. Congratulations to Cheserak on his race. He ran well today and Cristian just couldn't get it don't."
Soratos made an early move, leading going into the final lap, but Cheserak came from behind and pulled away to the finish. Yesterday the senior broke the NCAA record for the fastest preliminary mile run at the national championships, running a time of 3:57.94.
"Lyle has done a great job turning him into the athlete he is today. I look forward to watching him progress even more this spring."
