Bobcat Golfers Improve Again, Finish 8th at Grand Canyon Invitational

Team lowers score for second straight round
Montana State improved its score for the second straight day, firing a third-round 305 to finish eighth at the 2015 Grand Canyon University Invitational in Phoenix on Wednesday.
"We had a pretty good tournament," said Bobcat coach Brittany Basye. "We made some really good things happen, and experienced some things we'll learn from. As a team everyone contributed a score (during the three rounds), and that's a big step."
Four Bobcat players scored in the 70s and none shot higher than 81 on the tournament's final day. Three Bobcats improved their score in the third round, and two – jr. Lauren Hausauer of Bozeman and Three Forks jr. Haylee Folkvord – improved each round. While freshman Jaylee Tait's three-round 227 led the team, the team's fifth scorer, Folkvord, was only 13 shots behind, at 24.
Tait (Littleton, Colo.) paced the Cats with a third-round 76 to land in a 15th-place tie for the event. She notched eight birdies over the three-round event, the tournament's second-highest total (six players played either eight or nine of the tournament's 54 holes at one under par), and was one of the event's nine most proficient players on par five holes. Janelle Reali (so., Livermore, Calif.) posted a third-round 76 and jr. Kati Greear (Moscow, Idaho) fired an 81 to finish with a 234.
Basye was happy with her team's steady play. "Our consistency is getting better, and we need to keep working on those pressure situations so we're prepared for them," she said. "I'm proud of the way the team competed, and now we'll move forward to correct the things that hold us back. I'm looking forward to the Southern Utah tournament (in two weeks)."
