Consistency Boosts Bobcats in Second Round at GCU

Four of five players card lower scores than Monday
Jaylee Tait fired a team-low 75 and four Bobcats scored in the 70s as Montana State moved into a seventh place tie after two rounds of the Grand Canyon Invitational in Phoenix on Tuesday. MSU's second-round 308 was Tuesday's fourth-lowest team round.
Four of the five Bobcats entered improved from their spring-opening first rounds – Tait and Katie Greear by one stroke each, Lauren Hausauer by two strokes and Haylee Folkvord by six – while the fifth, Janelle Reali, played within one stroke of Monday's round. MSU coach Brittany Basye took that as a major positive. "Overall the girls played consistent today, and played pretty well," she said. "It was a good day for us, but we need to maintain this (Wednesday)."
Pari Keller fired one of the day's four eagles, while Tait registered six birdies, the second-highest total of the round among the 120-player field. After losing eight strokes to par on the 18th hole Monday, the Cats played the finishing hole one under par on Tuesday. "I'm very happy with how well we played 18," Basye said. "We finished strong, and that is very important."
Tait's 75 moved her into a ninth-place tie with a two-round total of 151. Greear fired a 76 on Tuesday, and her 153 leaves her tied for 16th, while Realie's 78 gives her a two-day 155, tied for 26th. Folkvord shot a 79, and is tied for 86th with a two-round 164, while Hausauer's 80 gives her a score of 162, good for a 75th-place tie.
The Bobcats stand tied with Missouri-Kansas City in seventh place, three strokes behind sixth-place Wyoming. UC Riverside leads the event 9601), while Big Sky rivals NAU (3rd, 612) and Southern Utah (4th, 614) are the only two league school ahead of the Cats. The tournament concludes with round three Wednesday. Haylee Folkvord is the first Bobcat to tee off, at 8:47 am.
"We need to keep playing well, and keep making good decisions," Basye said.
