Basye Signs Three for 2016-17

Montana State women's golf adds three high school standouts to the 2016-17 roster, head coach Brittany Basye announced last week. Delaney Elliot of Superior, Colo., Coral Schultz a Whitefish, Mont. native, and Kelly Hooper from Spokane, Wash., signed National Letters of Intent to join the 'Cats next fall.
"I am very excited to announce that Delaney, Kelly and Coral have all signed NLI's and will be joining the Bobcat golf family in the 2016-17 recruiting class," head coach Brittany Basye said. "I'm confident that with another summer under their belts, this class will contribute to our team in the right places. With Kati, Haylee and Lauren exhausting their eligibility, we will be losing important roles on our team, so it will be very important that Delaney, Kelly and Coral are ready to go come August."
DELANEY ELLIOT // Superior, Colo. // Monarch High School
Elliot was a member of the 2015 Colorado 5A All-State Golf team and the 2015 USGA Colorado Women's Team. The senior has qualified for the Optimist International the last two years and has participated in the state tournament since her freshman year. She recorded a career-low of 70 at Glenmore Country Club and was the 2015 Colorado Junior Golf Association's champion. A product of Monarch High school, she is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Young Life, DECA and volunteer's at Flatirons Community Church. Elliot will compete this spring in her final high school season.
Coach Basye on Delaney: "Delaney has built an impressive golf resume full of experience. This past summer she was able to take her golf game to the next level. Delaney has a strong work ethic, which is something I look for and appreciate."
Elliot on being a Bobcat: "I chose MSU because of the great combination of golf and academics. It has a beautiful campus and Bozeman seems like a great place to live and go to school. I'm excited to be part of a great with an awesome coach."
CORAL SCHULZ // Whitefish, Mont. // Whitefish High
Schulz was the back-to-back Montana Class A State Champion in 2014 and 2015, as the team's captain and MVP. The senior class Vice President shot a career low of 70 on two different occasions in 2013 at Bridger Creek and Green Meadows. She tallied her solo hole-in-one the same year at Missoula Country Club, in addition to winning the Missoula Invite four years in a row (2012-2015). The Whitefish native qualified for the Callaway Junior World's, Trusted Choice Big I Junior Classic and the AJGA (America's Cup).
Coach Basye on Schulz: "Coral comes from a family of MSU graduates, so I'm excited to bring some local blood into the program. She has good golf fundamentals, coupled with a positive attitude on the course, what will benefit her and the team while playing for the 'Cats."
Coral on being a Bobcat: "I have always been a Bobcat and wanted to pursue my goal of playing collegiate golf without leaving Montana. After my official visit, it made me extremely excited to play for coach Basye and to the play with the girls on the team. The campus feels amazing and to live in Bozeman will be such a great experience."
KELLY HOOPER // Spokane, Wash. // Gonzaga Preparatory
Hooper comes to the Bobcats after winning the Pacific Northwest Golf Association's Junior Amateur tournament in the summer of 2015. The Spokane, Wash., won in four rounds of match play. She was named First Team All-Great Spokane League and All-State after a sixth place state championship finish. Hooper fired a career-low of 69 at Walla Walla Country Club this past summer and will compete in her final high school season this spring. She was a three-time member of the President's list and a member of National Honor Society.
Coach Basye on Hooper: "Kelly is a very good student with a powerful golf swing, and will fit into the program well. I am confident Kelly will able to balance the role of a student-athlete very well and her game will continue to improve while she is with the Bobcats."
Kelly on being a Bobcat: "I fell in love with Bozeman and MSU's campus, as well as the team and coach Basye. I wanted to go somewhere I could compete at a high level, but still enjoy my college experience and MSU seemed like the perfect place. I'm excited to go out and compete for a Big Sky Title and to help grow the program even more. I can't wait to be part of the great Bobcat family in Bozeman.
