Fifty-nine free throws, forty-nine fouls and thirty-seven turnovers forced the game to over two hours in duration as both teams struggled to find any offensive consistency
Idaho State used an old-fashion three-point play with just over five minutes remaining and converted just enough free throw tosses down the stretch to notch a 65-62 win over Montana State, Thursday night in Worthington Arena.
Idaho State (7-7, 2-1) built its largest lead of the game at the 5:28 mark on a basket and free throw by sophomore Katrina Bacovcin to give the Bengals a 56-49 cushion. Montana State (6-8, 0-3) was able to chop the lead down to two-points following a Kalli Durham free throw with 1:37 left. Another ISU charity toss with 11-seconds left gave the Bengals a three-point margin.
On the ensuing possession, MSU's Peyton Ferris was fouled from beyond the arc with three-seconds remaining. The Twin Bridges native converted the first two tosses, before the third attempt rolled off the rim.
The rebound was collected by ISU's Rebecca Schrimpsher, who was immediately fouled. Schrimpsher converted both free throws on the other end to push the lead back to three points. MSU was unable to get off a good shot at the buzzer to tie the game and send it into overtime.
