Bobcats Sweep in Powder River Triangular

The Montana State track and field team came away with four dual victories, as both men’s and women’s team swept Wyoming and Northern Colorado.

Gillette, Wyo. – The Montana State track and field team came away with four dual victories, as both men's and women's team swept Wyoming and Northern Colorado. The men came out on top earning a 75-73 victory over Wyoming and an 82-54 point win over UNC. The women were also victorious with an 87-61 point margin to top Wyoming and a 91-59 point win over UNC.
Montana State walked away with 14 individual victories, compared to the four they earned last year at this meet.
"Overall, it was a great collective effort from both the men's and women's teams," head coach Dale Kennedy said. "Last season both sides were beat by over 20 points. It was nice to come back this year and better represent MSU and be more competitive with these teams."
Sean Ferriter kicked off the night again for the 'Cats, earning a personal-best (by almost four feet) of 65.29 feet in the weight throw. This is Ferriter's third consecutive victory in the event. Ryan Kropp came away with a first place finish in the pole vault, vaulting 15.75 feet.
Crisitan Soratos continues to impress, as he won the 800 with a Big Sky qualifying time of 1.50.06. Matthew Tex followed Soratos, finishing with a time of 1:52.15. Trevor Polson and Seth Garbett went one-two in the 3000, finishing 8:34.85 and 8:39.26.
For the women, Casey Teska's victory in the pole vault was a repeat of last season, as she vaulted 12.63 feet. Leah Cook added to MSU's field event victories, jumping 37.89 feet in the triple jump. Carley McCutched tallied another first place finish in the high jump with a 5.41 foot jump.
Of nine running events, MSU's women came out with six gold's at the meet. Chantel Jaeger earned a personal-best, running a 24.41 200m. Paige Squire's 56.36 400m dash resulted in a first place finish, while Kaylee Schmitz crossed the finish line first, running a 2:15.60 800. The mile was won by Christie Schiel (5:08.17) and the 3000 by Heather Demorest (9:50.48).
The women's 4x400 relay gets better each week, as they won the event by over five seconds, posting a time of 3:46.95, a season best. This week relay was run by Josephine Petruska, Squire, Iris Hardarson and Jaeger.
"We took another step forward today. Not only have we improved as a team, but we continue to improve as individuals. It's great to see at this point in the season."
The Bobcats return home on Friday, February 6 to host the Montana State Invitational. Field events are slated to begin at 4 p.m. and running events at 6 p.m.
