Bobcat Spikers Venture into SEC Country

For the fourth consecutive week the Bobcat volleyball team will compete in a non-conference tournament away from the confines of Shroyer Gym.

DISH LADY VOL CLASSIC:
For the fourth consecutive week the Bobcat volleyball team will compete in a non-conference tournament away from the confines of Shroyer Gym. This weekend, MSU ventures into SEC country for the DISH Lady Vol Classic in Knoxville, Tennessee. The Bobcats will open the tournament against Austin Peay on Friday, Sept. 19 at 8 a.m. (MDT). MSU will conclude play on Saturday, Sept. 20 against Memphis at 8 a.m., before finishing against Tennessee at 5 p.m.
'CAT CHAT:
The Bobcats went 1-2 at the University of New Mexico Invitational, last weekend in Albuquerque. MSU opened with a 25-16, 25-17, 25-10 loss to the Lobos. MSU was led in the match by Eli Svisco, who notched a team-best seven kills, while adding eight digs. UNM out-hit MSU .262 to -.044. On Saturday, UC Irvine handed Montana State a 25-16, 25-12, 25-16 setback. The Bobcats were paced by true-freshman Jolie Meade, who registered six kills, a .667 attack mark and a match-high three blocks. In its final match of the tournament, the Bobcats notched a 25-18, 22-25, 25-12, 25-21 victory over Bethune-Cookman. Montana State welcomed back its leading offensive player from last fall, Kennadie Clute, who had been sidelined for much of the preseason with an ankle injury. The Spokane, Washington product quickly made an impact, leading MSU with a match-high 19 kills, while adding seven digs, two aces and two blocks. Also in double-figure kills was Loni Kreun with 13, while recording a .435 attack mark and nine digs. Defensively, MSU was led on the weekend by senior libero Kasey Schlatter, who averaged 3.30 digs per set. Schlatter was named to the UNM Invitational all-tournament team for her efforts.
SCOUTING THE DISH LADY VOL CLASSIC:
The Bobcats will face the Governors of Austin Peay in the opener of the DISH Lady Vol Classic. AP is 3-9 overall, after dropping a 3-1 decision to Chattanooga on Tuesday night. The Governors are led by Jada Stotts, who averages 3.82 kills per set. Memphis is 6-4 overall and have won their last four outings. The Tigers are paced by Kate Gibson, who averages 2.97 kps. Tennessee is 5-5 on the season and is guided by Jamie Lea at 3.06 kills per contest.
BITS AND PIECES:
The Bobcats have found the early going tough in terms of kills and scoring points as they have been without its top two offensive players from last fall. MSU did get a lift last weekend as sophomore Kennadie Clute saw her first significant play in MSU's 3-1 win over Bethune Cookman. The Spokane, Washington product posted a match-high 19 kills. Middle blocker Natalee Godfrey is still listed as doubtful for this weekend...true-freshman Jolie Meade has been a nice surprise over the past three weeks. The native of Rocklin, California is second in the Big Sky Conference and tops on the Bobcat squad hitting .387 from the field. The mark also ranks 61st in the nation and is the seventh best attack mark in the nation by a first-year player... redshirt-freshman Dana Vestman is ranked 104th in the country in service aces with 13 and her .39 aces per set average is 109th in the nation. Vestman, who hails from Elk Grove, California, notched a season-high four aces in MSU's win over New Mexico State.
LOVING LONI:
Sophomore outside hitter Loni Kreun has picked up where she left off last fall, both offensively and defensively. The Davis, California product leads the Bobcats with 78 kills, averaging 2.36 per outing. In addition, Kreun is second on the team in digs with 79, averaging 2.39 saves per set. On the season, she has posted three double-doubles, including 13 kills and 13 digs vs. Grand Canyon.
DISHING THE ROCK:
For the third straight season the Bobcats have a different face at the setting position. Sophomore Katie Harrington transferred into Montana State during spring semester from the University of Louisiana-Monroe. The 6-foot product of Millersport, Ohio is averaging 8.73 assists per game. Harrington dished out a season-high 47 assists in Montana State's five-set win over Canisius. In addition, she is averaging .36 kps, while hitting .229 from the floor.
