The second day of the Big Sky Golf Tournament still has Montana State primed for one of their best finishes in recent years. After 36 holes, the Bobcats have amassed a score of 618 (305-313) and are tied with Northern Arizona for third place. While their score was eight strokes higher than day one, MSU is still holding their own at Ocotillo Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz. Portland State and Sacramento State are both tied for first with 605. The Vikings increased by seven strokes, while the Hornets dropped three to get into first.
Janelle Reali, the team's only freshman, was Monday's high finisher in Blue and Gold, coming in fifth with a 73 (+1). Her two day total comes to 149 (76-73) after dropping three stokes in the second round. Her 73 also marked a collegiate best for the Livermore, California native. Yesterday's leader for MSU, Kati Greear is now in sixth place with 150 (74-76).
Paige Crawford also added a few more strokes on Monday with 155 (76-79). In 2013, Crawford won the title and also set a three-day course record (208), as well as a single round record (67). The senior currently sits in 13th place.
MSU's fourth and fifth golfers had tougher days with Pamela Calderon Rojas in 39th (164) and Haylee Folkvord in 47th (171).
Overall, Coach Basye still has confidence going into the final round, as she should. "We've got one more day," said head coach Brittany Basye. "I told the team today, 'talk with your sticks and finish strong.' It's a team effort at this point no matter how we approach it and I want them to fight and play until that last putt is dropped."
