Bobcat Women Stun Sacramento State

The win over Sacramento State was a first in the history between the two schools in Big Sky action and the first in MSU head coach Denise Albrecht’s’ 14-year tenure with the Blue and Gold.
It was only fitting that Montana State's Wena Tsan played the biggest role in perhaps the biggest win in Bobcat women's tennis history.
The senior from Kuching, Malaysia posted a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles over Sacramento State's Emily McColl to lift MSU to a 4-3 win over the perennial Big Sky Conference power Hornets.
The win over Sacramento State was a first in the history between the two schools in Big Sky action and the first in MSU head coach Denise Albrecht's' 14-year tenure with the Blue and Gold.
Friday afternoon, Montana snapped Sacramento State's 112-match winning streak with a 4-3 win over the Hornets in Missoula to become the first league team to beat Sacramento State since 2001.
On Friday night, MSU made it a Treasure State sweep, and like the UM-SAC match, won it at No. 5 singles. And, even sweeter was the fact that Tsan was the one Bobcat that was most familiar with Sacramento State's Big Sky Conference dominance, as her sister, Aileen, was an all-conference player for the Hornets in 2008.
"I never thought we could ever beat them," Tsan said. "It was a one-in-a-million win. I knew I had to get it done. I was up 5-4 in the second set and couldn't close. I just kept battling. This was the perfect opportunity for us to beat them, and we took it."
Sacramento State entered the match down a player due to an injury in its match with Montana. The Hornets had to default at No. 3 doubles, which meant MSU needed to take either No. 1 or 2 doubles for the first point of the match.
The Bobcats got the first point relying on its No. 2 tandem of Ellie Crum and Laura Middel, who recorded an 8-2 win over the Hornets. En route, the duo won its tenth consecutive match, becoming the top pair at the spot in Big Sky Conference action with an 11-1 mark.
"Sacramento State came in a little wounded," Albrecht said. "However, a team that has been as dominate as they have been, have a roster full of outstanding players. We had to fight for every point, and I'm so excited for the girls to knock them off, especially our seniors."
MSU senior Ellie Crum quickly put the Bobcats up 3-0 with a straight set 6-0, 6-2 decision over Andie Mouzes at No. 4 singles. Sacramento State defaulted at No. 6 singles.
The Hornets would not roll over as Olivia Boija posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over Middel at No. 2 singles. Sacramento State then rallied for victories at Nos. 1 and 3 singles – both in three sets – to tie the match at 3-all.
Montana State will host Northern Colorado on Sunday in the Anderson Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
