Brandes leads Cats to victory

Niklas Brandes came from behind to post a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles to lead Montana State to a 4-3 win over Seattle in Eugene, Ore., on Saturday.

The win avenged a 4-2 team loss to Seattle from one day earlier, and also similarly-contested 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 loss at the top singles spot on Friday. Brandes also teamed with Diego Campos to earn a win at No. 1 doubles, which clinched the doubles point for the Bobcats.

"The match came down to Nik, and he really battled to get the win," said MSU coach Jared Burnham. "He and Diego played very well at doubles, too."

MSU's most consistent performer on the weekend was Harry James at No. 5 singles. James earned a pair of straight-set wins, surrendering just five games along the way. "Harry really played well this weekend," Burnham said. "He killed it in both singles and doubles."

The Bobcats play at Portland on Monday.
