* Montana State will begin a three game road-swing beginning at Idaho State on Thursday night in Pocatello. The Bobcats will conclude the weekend with a Saturday afternoon contest at Weber State. The following week, March 1, MSU will face Southern Utah in Cedar City, before finishing out the regular-season at home with three games (Montana, Northern Arizona and Sacramento State).
* Montana State sits in a tie for sixth with Idaho State in the muddled mess known as the Big Sky Conference standings. Seven teams will make this year's field, which is the most since the six-team format was adopted in 1996. MSU is one game back of Sacramento State and Eastern Washington for fourth, yet a 1/2 game in front of Northern Colorado for eighth. Three weeks remain...
* The Bobcats hold a 39-30 lead in its all-time series with Idaho State dating back to the 1977-78 season. Recently, the Bengals have had the upper-hand in the rivalry, winning five of the last six contests, including a 74-63 over MSU in Shroyer Gym on Jan. 25.
* In the first meeting this winter, Idaho State held a commanding 43-25 edge in rebounding and built a 10-point halftime lead after connecting on seven-of-12 from beyond the arc in the opening period. Kalli Durham and Ashley Brumwell paced MSU with 13 and 12 points, respectively. ISU was led by Rebecca Schrimpsher and Lindsey Reed with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Schrimpsher finished with four 3-pointers, while Reed went 10-13 from the charity stripe.
* MSU has been out-rebounded in its last seven games by an average of 12.1 boards per contest. The last time the Bobcats out-rebounded an opponent came against Weber State on Jan. 23.
* The Bobcats have trailed at halftime in six of its last seven games.
* In its win over North Dakota last Thursday, the Bobcats opened the second half missing its first four shot attempts, but then went 13-16 (81 percent) from the field for the rest of the game, en route to the season sweep over UND. MSU totaled 26 field-goals for the game and had 21 assists on the night, led by Ausha Cole and Margreet Barhoum with seven and five, respectively.
* Thanks to the late night antics and research by radio play-by-play man Riley Corcoran, MSU is one of only 12 teams at the NCAA Division I level to use the same line-up in every game this season. Montana is the other Big Sky Conference team that can claim the feat. All but one of the squads has a winning record - UNC-Wilmington.
* Lindsey Reed leads ISU with 15.4 points per game. Jessica Tingey scores 11.9 ppg and leads the Bengals at 6.9 rpg.
* Weber State snapped its 50-game Big Sky losing streak with an 84-71 win over ISU on Monday night. MSU knocked off the Wildcats 87-71 on Jan. 23 in Worthington Arena.
A FULL PLATE:
Ashley Brumwell has a lot on her plate. In addition to her playing gig, the 5th-year senior just completed a student-teaching stint in the math department at Bozeman High and received her undergraduate degree. Brumwell (formerly Albert) notched a career-high 26 points in MSU's win over Eastern Washington on Jan. 11. Last weekend, she posted 16 points and six rebounds in MSU's win over North Dakota. She is currently 2nd on MSU's all-time career blocks chart with 126 swats.
SHE'S A KICK:
Jackie Elliott was active on the glass for the Bobcats last weekend, averaging 5.5 boards per game. In addition, the Billings Central product totaled eight points, five assists and four steals. In Big Sky action, she is averaging 10.3 points and 6.8 boards per game. Elliott, who was the 2010-11 Montana High School Gatorade Soccer Player of the Year, is majoring in mechanical engineering.
FROM THE TOWN THAT MADE VIOLET BEAUREGARDE FAMOUS:
Miles City product Kalli Durham, who has strong family ties to Montana State (grandfather Lin, Uncle Mick and cousin Casey played for the Bobcat men's team), was in double-digits in both games last weekend, averaging 12.5 ppg. The daughter of former UM-Western Athletic Director and men's basketball coach Mark Durham, she has been in double-digits in 13 games this winter. Durham has recorded 37 career double-figure scoring games in three seasons.
ALL IN THE FAMILY:
Jasmine Hommes has started all 23 games and is averaging 13.4 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. Against Southern Utah, Hommes posted a career-best 24 points on Jan. 30. Last weekend, she averaged 15.5 points per game- with 20 in MSU's win over UND. In Big Sky play, Hommes is averaging 15.2 ppg. She also has strong ties to the MSU women's basketball program. She is the niece of former MSU and Big Sky MVP Blythe Hommes-Hintz and former MSU and All-Big Sky performer Brooke Hommes-Svendsen. Hommes' aunts made a combined 130 starts for MSU.
BABY TALK:
After taking last year off on maternity leave, Ausha Cole has returned to the Bobcat line-up. Cole has been in double-digits in six games, including 12 points at UM. Cole is 3rd in the Big Sky averaging 5.6 assists per game. Her current assist/turnover ratio of +2.4 is tops in the Big Sky Conference this season. On a side note, her biggest fan and daughter, Kadence, celebrated her first birthday on Nov. 19, 2013.
DAWK AND STOCK:
Alexa Dawkins has done a nice job coming off the bench this season. The former Bozeman High product is averaging 4.5 points and 3.6 rebounds in league play. Her 10 rebounds at Portland State on Feb. 8 were a career-high. Lindsay Stockton averaged nine minutes of action last weekend and recorded two points and three assists. Stockton recorded a Big Sky Conference season-high 14 points against Weber State on Jan. 23. Lindsay is the daughter of legendary NBA Hall of Famer John Stockton, while Dawkins' father Dale played football on the University of Miami's 1987 National Championship team. Dawkins later went on to play wide receiver for the New York Jets from 1990-93.
FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS:
Redshirt freshman Margreet Barhoum is averaging 14.2 minutes per game coming off the bench in Big Sky action. Against Portland State, she registered a career-high 13 points, which included three 3-pointers and a 4-4 effort from the free throw line. The Edmonds, Wash., recorded a career-high six assists in MSU's win over Portland State in Worthington Arena on Jan. 9. Barhoum is currently tied for third on the squad with Jackie Elliott with 16 three-pointers to date.
DeNOTE ON DeWIT:
Montana State forward Kayla DeWit posted a career-high 12 points in MSU game against Northern Colorado last Saturday. The Columbia Falls product had 14 points in the first half, alone. For the game, she connected on 6-8 from the field and 4-4 from the line. Her 4.0 rebound average is fifth best on the team. DeWit hauled down a team-high nine rebounds in MSU's loss at Montana on Feb. 3. On the season, DeWit is averaging 12.8 minutes of action.
REDSHIRTING:
Sophomore Peyton Ferris, who averaged 2.4 points and 2.0 rebounds last winter, will redshirt the 2013-14 campaign, according to MSU head coach Tricia Binford. Already on redshirt is junior college transfer and guard Michelle Seitz.
