Montana State played well for thirty-five minutes, however, it was Idaho State’s ability to hit the big shots and get to the free throw line in the final five-minutes that lifted the Bengals to a 75-65 win over the Bobcats, Thursday night in Reed Gym.
Montana State played well for thirty-five minutes, however, it was Idaho State's ability to hit the big shots and get to the free throw line in the final five-minutes that lifted the Bengals to a 75-65 win over the Bobcats, Thursday night in Reed Gym.
"We played a solid thirty-five minutes," MSU head coach Tricia Binford said. "Fouls and rebounds, plus their ability to convert a couple of huge three-pointers down the stretch were the difference. We have to become more disciplined and not put teams in the bonus so early."
The game featured 18 lead changes and ten ties, before Idaho State (10-14, 8-7) used an 8-1 run with 4:53 left to pull away and secure the win. ISU's Rebecca Schrimpsher and Kara Jenkins each hit a 3-pointer during the two-minute stretch to guide the Bengals in the waning moments.
Montana State (12-12, 7-8) was led by Kalli Durham with 19 points, including three 3-pointers. Also in double-figures were Jasmine Hommes and Ashley Brumwell with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Both teams shot 42 percent from the field, but Idaho State held a sizeable advantage at the charity stripe connecting on 23-28, while Montana State went 8-11 from the line.
ISU also held a 40-29 rebounding margin.
"We'll put this game behind us and move on," Binford said. "We need to bounce back as every game is so important."
The Bengals were guided by Lindsey Reed, who posted 34 points, including a 17-18 effort from the free throw line.
MSU will face Weber State on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats are on a two-game win streak after defeating Idaho State on Monday and Montana on Thursday night. WSU had lost fifty consecutive Big Sky Conference games before this week.
