MSU battles Bears on Altitude TV
Montana State's best free throw-shooting game of the year, and its second-best shooting night against a league opponent, boosted the Bobcats to a 78-70 win at North Dakota on Thursday. The challenge is even greater on Saturday, when MSU visits a Northern Colorado team standing on a 12-0 home record this season.
MSU Game Notes vs. Northern Colorado
"This will be a great challenge," said Bobcat coach Brad Huse. "Northern Colorado is a very good team that is perfect at home this year. The overtime win (against Montana on Thursday) certainly gives them even more confidence."
Each team enters Saturday's contest on an up-swing. MSU's third league road win on Thursday gives the Bobcats back-to-back Big Sky wins for the first time since opening conference play with a 3-0 mark. Northern Colorado snapped a four-game losing streak Thursday by upending Montana 89-86 in overtime.
Thursday's proceedings extended the mayhem in the middle of the Big Sky Conference standings. Three teams (MSU, Montana and North Dakota) enter Saturday's games with 7-6 records, while three more (Portland State, Eastern Washington, and Sacramento State) stand 6-7. Two more are 8-5 (UNC and NAU), while Idaho State's trip to Cedar City gives the Bengals a strong chance of raising their record to 6-7.
Flavien Davis led the Bobcats with 19 points on Thursday, while Marcus Colbert chipped in with 16 points. The sophomore guard was 4-for-5 from the floor, including 2-for-2 from three-point range, and 6-for-6 from the line. MSU out-rebounded UND 30-to-28, and while Paul Egwuonwu's eight boards gave him the team lead for the 13th time this season, five Bobcats grabbed at least five rebounds.
Saturday's MSU-Northern Colorado game is televised by Altitude, and tips off at 7 pm.
