
Bobcats Open Up Day One of Outdoor Championships

Williamson sits in fifth in decathlon; McMillan and Barrett will look to rally on day two

Kicking the four-day meet off was the men's 100 when Powhattan Williamson came in third in the field with a time of 11.41 seconds. In the third event of the day, the Billings, Mont. native notched a lifetime best in the shot put when he uncorked a toss of 10.86m (35-07.75) for a sixth place finish.
The high jump followed up with a 1.81m (5-11.25) performance. The day closed out with the 400 and Williamson crossed the finish line in 50.72, marking a season best time. Overall, he sits in fifth place with 3,435 points. Montana's Austin Emry leads the field with 3,838.
In the women's heptathlon, Saide McMillan and Kortnee Barrett are representing the Blue and Gold. At the close of the first day, McMillan is in 12th place with 2,589 points while classmate Barrett is in 19th with 2,404.
McMillian's highest individual finish of the day was in the 100 hurdles, where she placed eighth with a time of 15.33, marking a season best for the senior.
Barrett, who shines in the shot put, did exactly that with a sixth place finish. She threw 10.80m (35-05.25). In addition, she crossed the finish line in the 200, the final event of the day, with a lifetime best time of 27.45.
“We will hope for improvement tomorrow,” said assistant coach Tom Eitel. “Each of our competitors is only halfway finished and I know they'll really bring their best and compete out there.”
The final day of the multis begins Thursday at 11:30 a.m. (MDT) with the 110 hurdles in the decathlon and 12:15 p.m. with the heptathlon long jump.
