For the third consecutive year, Montana State senior Rachel Semansky has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VII Women's Basketball squad.
For the third consecutive year, Montana State senior Rachel Semansky has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District VII Women's Basketball squad. The native of Highwood garnered her second consecutive first-team accolade and will move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration later this month. Semansky was a Capital One Second-Team Academic All-America last winter.
Semansky is the only player in the Big Sky Conference to receive the honor for the second straight season in women's basketball.
The 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Women's Basketball teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
“Year-in and year-out, Rachel has continued to set the bar for our program both on the court and in the classroom,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “To think she is one of the top six student-athletes from Division I schools in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming is amazing. It's a testament to her work-ethic both on and off the court.”
Semansky, who holds down a 3.96 grade-point average in elementary education, is currently averaging 13.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is the second year of the expanded Academic All-America program as CoSIDA moves from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and doubles the number of scholar-athletes honored. The teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
District VII First-Team All-Academic:
Rachel Semansky, Montana State, Sr., 3.96, Elementary Education
Caroline Durbin, New Mexico, Sr., 4.18, Business
Paige Frauendorfer, Nebraska-Omaha, Sr., 3.94, Biology
Whitney Hand, Oklahoma, Gr., 3.76, Health and Exercise Science
Chaundra Sewell, Wyoming, Sr., 3.85, Pre-Pharmacy
