UND makes first visit to Bozeman for hoops since 1964
The opponent may be unfamiliar to Bobcat fans, but when North Dakota makes its first trip to Worthington Arena since 1964 on Thursday the scenario will seem routine.
MSU Game Notes vs. North Dakota
Montana State hosts the Green and White of UND for the first time almost a half-century to begin a weekend homestand that shapes up as crucial as a big one for the Cats. MSU enters Thursday's game with a 7-5 mark in Big Sky play, one game ahead of UND, but North Dakota comes to Bozeman with a win over the Bobcats in its hip pocket. That sets up a contest with tie-breaker implications in terms of entry to and seeding in the Big Sky Tournament.
“Certainly this is a big game for us,” says MSU coach Brad Huse, “but every game is a big game. Every game is circled on our calendar. But our guys are aware what happened when we played at North Dakota, and they're aware how close the teams are in the Big Sky standings.
On January 12, UND topped the Bobcats 86-73. The Bobcats were neck-and-neck with the Green and White before a controversial technical foul late in the game propelled UND to a comfortable margin of victory. Christian Moon scored 21 points for the Bobcats that afternoon, while Paul Egwuonwu added 16. Jamal Webb, with 23 points, was one of three UND players with at least 20. Aaron Anderson and Troy Huff each scored 20.
UND makes its first swing through Montana as a league school led by the three players who torched the Bobcats in Grand Forks a month ago. Huff, who missed a chunk of the season with injury, averages 18.1 points per contest, while Anderson (13.8) and Webb (9.4) also help carry the scoring load.
After Thursday's game the Bobcats face another squad firmly in the mix for third place in the Big Sky when Northern Colorado comes to town on Saturday. Tipoff is 7:05 pm for both games.
