Temperatures have hovered at the -10 degree mark in Bozeman the last few days but inside Worthington Arena, Montana State Track and Field divided into two squads for an evening of friendly competition at the annual Blue & Gold Meet.
While meet results do not count toward Big Sky Conference Indoor qualifiers, 11 Bobcats would have earned their marks in a variety of events on Friday.
In combined team scoring, the Gold team prevailed, 151.5-132.5 over the Blue team. The Gold women defeated the Blue, 85.5-62.5 while the Blue men won over the Gold, 70-66.
Notable women's performances came from Chantel Jaeger in the 200 and 400, Amber Amsbaugh and Alisa Gilchrist in the high jump and Casey Teska in the pole vault. The MSU men had their own slate of strong showings such as Chris Wilson in the 55 and 200, Jeff Mohl in the 55 hurdles, Ryan Kropp in the pole vault, Trevor Gilreath in the shot put, Kevin Close in the triple jump and Zach Sharp and Sean Ferriter in the weight throw.
"Tonight was a pretty good indiciation of where we are and need to be," said head coach Dale Kennedy. "I definitely believe we're on our way but these next four weeks or so are very criticial as we gear up for the first complete meet on Jan. 17."
The Bobcats have their soft opening on Monday, Jan. 6 for the CAT-Griz Multi Meet, followed by the Montana State Open on Friday, Jan. 17 tentatively slated for a 4:30 p.m. start.
