Matadors, MSU get together for second time in five days
The calendar hasn't yet flipped past November, but Montana State basketball coach Brad Huse already has conference play on his mind.
Montana State Cal State Northridge for the second time in less than a week on Tuesday at 7 pm in Worthington Arena, a rematch of last Thursday's 74-73 Matador victory at Central Michigan. Huse said the second contest helps replicate a conference series.
"It's an interesting turnaround," he said, "a lot like a league game where you're playing an opponent you've recently faced. Both teams are probably a little run down from the travel. I know we're eager to get back on the court and play again."
Calen Coleman (career-high 18 points) and Marcus Colbert (17 points) spurred the Cats in the narrow loss. The Bobcats made more baskets (22-to-20) and three-pointers (9-to-4), but CSN hit 30 free throws to MSU's 20. Stephen Maxwell led all scorers with 21 points.
Huse liked the way his team battle in last weekend's three-game tournament. "I thought we really competed well in all three games," he said. "All three games could have gone either way. I'm starting to get a sense of our rotation and what each guy brings to the floor."
The Bobcats enter Tuesday's game with a 1-4 record, but as Huse indicated both the losses at Central Michigan were narrow defeats. The Bobcats also lost to Austin Peay, and upended Central Michigan.
