For ninth-year head coach Tricia Binford, there were more positives than negatives as her Montana State basketball team cruised by Great Falls 97-63, Tuesday night in exhibition action.
Three Montana State players recorded double-doubles led by senior Ashley Brumwell, who poured in a game-high 23 points, while pulling down ten rebounds. Junior Kalli Durham chipped in 14 points and 12 rebounds, while sophomore Jasmine Hommes finished with 14 points and ten boards.
"I was pleased that we had more positives than negatives," Binford said. "We did a nice job with our spacing, we ran the floor well, and our shot selection was excellent. We had some nice post touches and we had good balance."
MSU jumped out of the starting gate with an 11-0 run and never looked back. The Bobcats led 51-21 at intermission, behind Brumwell's 13-point first half outburst.
In the second stanza, the Bobcats held a narrow 46-42 advantage in scoring as UGF's Erin Legel heated up the net with 17 points to finish with a team-high 21 points.
"Defensively, we did some exciting things, but there is plenty to clean-up," Binford said. "With the new contact rules that were called, we'll need to adapt to what we're doing. Exhibition games are a great opportunity to get some video and take a look at where we are and where we need to go."
Also in double-digit scoring for Montana State was sophomore Kayla DeWit, who came off the bench to record 12 points on six-of-11 from the field. All nine players had at least six points or more. Senior Emily Allen finished with a team-high five assists.
For the game, MSU shot 41 percent from the field and connected on 17-21 from the free throw line.
Also in double-figure scoring for the Argos were Taylor Statton 14 and Darah Huertas-Vining 12.
Montana State will play its final exhibition game of the preseason on Saturday when it hosts UM Western at 2 p.m. in Worthington Arena.
