Bobcats Fall to Grizzlies in Overtime
1/19/2013 10:04:00 PM | Men's Basketball
Griz too much for Cats after regulation
The Montana State men's basketball team was able to stick with rival Grizzlies for the first 40 minutes of play on Saturday night. In overtime, the Griz ran away with the victory. “We made enough shots to get to overtime, but they made the big one,” said head coach Brad Huse. “We played with good poise, our guys were pretty resilient and played well together.”
A three pointer by Grizzly Mike Weisner with three seconds left in regulation sent the game into overtime. The Griz never looked back as they scored 10 points in overtime to the Bobcats five. During overtime, “they converted and we didn't. A last second shot is a pretty emotional way for any team to go in to overtime and a challenge for anyone,” added coach Huse.
The Bobcats were led by Christian Moon with 14 points, four assists and three rebounds. Flavien Davis chipped in with 12 total points and eight rebounds. Marcus Colbert was able to hit some big shots and finished with nine points.
“A loss like this is pretty tough after how hard we fought for 40 minutes but in overtime they made the plays they needed to,” said Christian Moon.
The Bobcats were effective on offense despite the outcome of the game. They shot 50% from the field in the first half, 47% for the game and were 8-19 for three-pointers and 11-15 from the free throw line for the game. “We are able to get shots within our system when we have guys that can pass the ball,” said Marcus Colbert. “We can spread the ball and knock some shots down.”
The Griz were led by Kareem Jamar, who finished with a double-double with 23 points and 10 assists. Senior guard Will Cherry had 14 points as Jordan Gregory finished with 11 total points.
“We think we are right where we need to be for us as a team,” added Christian Moon. “This was a good measuring point.” The Bobcats return home on Monday night as Southern Utah travels to Bozeman for a 7:05 p.m matchup.
