Bobcats See Success at Day Two of California Weekend

Track and Field capitalizes on high level of competition headed into final day
Montana State kept up the momentum at the second day of competition in their three-day stint in California. With one group competing at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, and another group at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, several impressive performances took place.
At Mt. SAC, a bevy of Bobcats competed and put up strong showings. Emily Tyrrell was MSU's highest finisher at the meet, placing fifth in the javelin with a throw of 48.34m (158-07.00). Amanda Murphy had two top-20 finishes, placing 12th in the shot put (14.29m) and 17th in the hammer (57.22).
Also in the throws, David Phillips, came in 15th in the hammer throw with a distance of 57.78m (189-07.00).
Freshmen Sonia Antar and Chantel Jaeger fared quite well at their first Mt. SAC appearance finishing 30th and 32nd, respectively in the 400. Antar clocked in with a time of 55.74, while Jaeger crossed the line in 56.19, marking a season bests for both.
Chris Wilson, coming off a big week last time out, came in 27th in the 100, with a time of 10.71.
In the hurdles, Katie Niemeir placed 28th in the 100 event in 14.29, and 22nd in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:01.41. Madeline Fuchs placed 27th in the 400 with 1:01.97.
Thursday night featured many of the distance events at Mt. SAC. Grant Grosvenor placed 23rd in his division in the 800, just shy of a lifetime best.
In the 5K, Dan Jackson finished with a personal best time of 14:09.96, eclipsing his previous fastest by about 20 seconds. Jake Turner placed 20th in his division with 14:32.68.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Matt Nicholas placed third in the long jump with a lifetime best distance of 7.22m (23-08.00). Trevor Gilreath also placed in the top-five in the shot put, coming in fourth in 16.63m (54-06.75).
Montana State will close out the three-day competition at the Beach Invitational on Saturday, April 21.
