Emily Tyrrell, who has been a pillar in the javelin throughout her tenure at Montana State, upheld that unofficial title, as she won the event with a distance of 51.88m (170-02), marking an Olympic Trials B standard and season best. Tyrrell is the current program record holder at 170-10.00.
The other top-10 performance was in the men's shot put when Trevor Gilreath placed third overall with 17.39m (57-00.75), a new lifetime best.
Nick Melone became a new Big Sky Championships qualifier, after clocking in at 21.98 in the 200.
In the hurdles, Katie Niemeir has seen steady improvement all season, picking up another season best time in the 100 Hurdles, with a time of 14.20.
Grant Grosvenor also put up a big fight in the 1,500, coming from the back of the pack to a fourth place finish in his heat, with a lifetime best time of 3:53.78. Teammate Dan Jackson, came in sixth in the heat in 3:54.76.
“Overall, this was a really great trip, seeing a lot of great things,” said head coach Dale Kennedy. “We accumulated a lot of season bests and that tells me that we're still climbing as a program this year. I'm really looking forward to Cat-Griz next weekend, the next big thing on our radar.”
Montana State returns to the Bobcat Track and Field Complex on Saturday, April 28 for the Cat-Griz Dual, their final home meet before the 2012 Big Sky Championships. Last year, the Bobcats split with the Griz, with the men winning, avenging a 2010 loss and the women losing their third in a row.
