Bobcat Women Split Final Weekend; Down EWU on Senior Day

The Montana State women’s tennis team concluded its 2012 season splitting a pair of matches over the weekend.

The Montana State women's tennis team concluded its 2012 season splitting a pair of matches over the weekend.

The Bobcats opened play with a 6-1 victory over Eastern Washington on Saturday morning at the Anderson Tennis Center. All three Bobcat seniors went out in style; each winning their matches.

The highlight of the day was the return of Jennifer Coll, who missed her senior season due to shoulder surgery. Coll combined with Wena Tsan at No. 3 doubles and earned an 8-5 win to help MSU sweep all three spots and earn the first point of the match.

“It was great to see Jen back out on the court,” said MSU head coach Denise Albrecht. “Having her back in the line-up really gave us a lot of energy and every one of our kids stepped up and played well.”

Seniors Andrea De La Torre and Lucy Fairbotham each won their singles matches in straight sets at Nos. 5 and 6 singles.

In the season finale', the Bobcats, who finished 4-4 in Big Sky Conference play, dropped a 6-1 decision to Montana in Missoula.

MSU's lone point came at No. 3 singles where Paulina Lopez downed Ashley Mackey, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.

“It was nice to see us play are best tennis in the final weekend, especially after the hard loss to Northern Colorado,” Albrecht said. “We battled some adversity and injuries this season, but I really liked the way we competed all year long.”
