Golfers hit the course to open up 2012 slate
While winters may be long in Montana, spring is truly just around the corner for Montana State Women's Golf. The Bobcats are slated to open the 2012 spring season on Saturday, March 3, at the Red Rocks Invitational in Sedona, Ariz. The two-day invite will be held at Oakcreek Country Club, a par 72, 18-hole championship course (6,084 yards).
Montana State will be competing among a 20-team field, including tournament host and Big Sky Conference member Northern Arizona. The field also includes CSU Bakersfield, Eastern Michigan, Eastern Washington, Grand Canyon, Montana, Northern Colorado, Northern Kentucky, North Dakota, Oakland, Seattle, South Dakota, Southern Utah, Utah Valley, Xavier, Weber State, Western Michigan, Western New Mexico and Wyoming.
Competing for Montana State are the usual six-some of Paige Crawford, Molly Dorans, Melissa Hultstrand, Leslie McGetrick, Katie Michunovich and Kelly O'Brien. Crawford closed out the fall season as the top finisher for MSU at three of their five tournaments. McGetrick was the top Bobcat twice, including a share of the medalist title at the Bengal Classic along with O'Brien.
“I am really excited to get the team out on grass and playing,” said head coach Brittany Basye. “They've been preparing mentally for last two months for this course and there's no time like the first tournament to really make some positive things happen on the golf course.”
Golfers will play 18 holes on both Saturday and Sunday. Round one will begin at 1p.m., while the second round will start at 8 a.m., both with shotgun starts.
