The Montana State women’s tennis team made quick work of its weekend series with Portland State and MSU Billings, sweeping all 12 singles matches in straight sets to notch 7-0 victories over both the Vikings and Yellowjackets.

The Montana State women's tennis team made quick work of its weekend series with Portland State and MSU Billings, sweeping all 12 singles matches in straight sets to notch 7-0 victories over both the Vikings and Yellowjackets.

In its Big Sky Conference opener, the Bobcats captured the opening doubles point, before sweeping all six singles spots. MSU's play was highlighted by No. 1 singles player Char Hjalmarsson, who posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Marti Pellicano at the top spot. Hjalmarsson combined with Paulina Lopez at No. 1 doubles, where the tandem defeated Pellicano and Megan Govi 8-4.

“We had a great weekend with solid play all around,” said MSU head coach Denise Albrecht. “We struggled a little in doubles play, but we got all three wins and that is something we needed to accomplish. It's still early in the season and we certainly have some things that we can improve.”

In non-conference action on Sunday afternoon, MSU cruised to the sweep without dropping a game in singles play. In all, the Bobcats dropped just three games, all in doubles, for the match.

Montana State will be off until meeting the University of Hawaii in Honolulu on March 9.
