Semansky Named Capital One Academic All-America

Montana State junior standout Rachel Semansky has earned Capital One Academic All-America Second-Team honors, the nation’s highest academic accolade for student-athletes.
Montana State junior standout Rachel Semansky has earned Capital One Academic All-America Second-Team honors, the nation's highest academic accolade for student-athletes.
Semansky, a native of Highwood, is among fifteen women's basketball players at the NCAA Division I level to achieve the recognition. Semansky sports a 3.95 grade-point average in elementary education.
“Rachel continues to amaze us with her excellence both on the court and in the classroom,” said MSU women's basketball coach Tricia Binford. “She utilizes her gifts to her fullest potential and sets a great example for others.”
With the honor, Semansky becomes the first Bobcat women's basketball player to earn the recognition since Evelyn Baldridge in 1985. Baldridge was a third team honoree, while Kathie Roos garnered honorable mention accolades in 1982.
Semansky is the first MSU student-athlete to be named Academic All-America since Matt Adams (track) in 2010. In all, 33 Montana State student-athletes have earned Academic All-America honors dating back to MSU's first recipient, Randy Rucker, in 1976.
On the court, Semansky is currently averaging 14.1 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 52 percent from the field and leading the Bobcats to a 17-9 overall record.
Delaware's Ellena Delle Donne was named the Academic All-American of the Year for women's basketball.
