Balanced Attack Leads Bobcat Women past UM-Western

Montana State head coach Tricia Binford was hoping to come out of its game with UM-Western with fresh legs. And, despite a tired first half, the Bobcats had enough gusto to cruise to an 81-49 win over the Bulldogs, Thursday night in front of 1,788 fans in Worthington Arena.
Montana State head coach Tricia Binford was hoping to come out of its game with UM-Western with fresh legs. And, despite a tired first half, the Bobcats had enough gusto to cruise to an 81-49 win over the Bulldogs, Thursday night in front of 1,788 fans in Worthington Arena.
All 12 players dressed scored and played between 10-21 minutes as Montana State (4-1) pulled away on a Lindsay Stockton three-pointer at the 3:45 mark of the opening half to give MSU a 38-17 advantage. The Bobcats entered intermission with a 40-24 lead.
“I thought we looked tired,” Binford said. “We didn't have the energy and urgency to control the things we could. I was happy that we hit our free throws and rebounded well.”
In the second stanza, the Bobcats built its largest lead at the 8:49 mark to go up 69-35 following an Alexa Dawkins layin. MSU finished the final five minutes of the contest with its five freshmen on the floor.
“It was great to get our freshmen experience,” Binford said. “Throughout the game, I thought we did a nice job getting the ball inside and we finished well, which should help us be rested as we head into a travel day.”
Rachel Semansky, Jasmine Hommes and Stockton paced the Bobcats with 12 points, apiece. Dawkins, a Bozeman graduate, pulled down a team-best seven rebounds, while Hommes added six.
For the game, the Bobcats shot 47 percent from the field and connected on 11-of-12 free throws. MSU also held a sizeable 49-27 advantage under the boards.
UM-Western (5-5) was led by Sammi Bignell with 15 points.
The Bobcats will play at Western Athletic Conference power Utah State on Saturday at 2 p.m., in Logan, Utah.
