Bobcats Tipoff Season with Montana Tech, Monday Night

The Montana State women’s basketball team begins its 2012-13 campaign when it hosts Montana Tech in exhibition action, Monday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

Eighth-year head coach Tricia Binford welcomes back sixteen players, including eight who will be wearing the Blue and Gold for the first time. In addition, Binford returns four starters and eight letterwinners.
“We're young,” Binford said. “Fortunately, we have good leadership with our upperclassmen and that should help move us along quickly.”
MSU returns the likes of all-conference performer Rachel Semansky, as well as seasoned veterans Ashley (Albert) Brumwell, Latisha Adams, Emily Allen, Kalli Durham and Jackie Elliott.
Junior Chelsea Banis had off-season hip surgery, but will be expected back sometime in 2013, while junior point-guard Ausha Cole will sit out the season on a medical redshirt.
“We have a good nucleus back,” Binford said. “And, coupled with our newcomers, I think we'll be stronger, more balanced and will possess depth at every position; and that's something we haven't had.”
With all the unknowns heading into the 2012-13, Binford is cautiously optimistic about the season ahead. According to Binford, Monday's exhibition with Montana Tech and the exhibition game against Minot State on Nov. 4, serve as a good starting point for the season.
“Exhibition games give us a baseline,” Binford said. “Everything after the exhibition games should be an improvement; a step forward towards our goal of competing for a Big Sky Conference championship.”
Montana Tech is 2-0 overall after defeating South Dakota School of Mines (86-56) and UM-Western (72-61) over the weekend. The Orediggers were paced by Kelsey DeWit, who averaged 17 points and 8.5 rebounds in the two games. DeWit is the older sister of Bobcat redshirt-freshman Kayla DeWit.
