Despite finishing its season almost two months ago, the Montana State women's basketball team continued to reap honors from an outstanding season.
At the MSU Athletic Department's annual A.L.L. banquet last week, the women's basketball squad captured several awards and honors for their efforts on the court, in the classroom and within the community.
MSU's A.L.L. (Academics, Leadership and Life Skills) program bestowed its top honor- the Al Beye Memorial trophy- on the Bobcat women's basketball squad. The Al Beye trophy totals the efforts in all three aspects of the athletic department.
In addition, the team garnered the A.L.L. Challenge Community Service award for giving over 300+ hours to the community. Individually, senior Lyndi Seidensticker captured the A.L.L. Challenge Community Service Individual award. The Spokane native served as a Big Sister this past season.
The Bobcat women's team also won the A.L.L. Challenge Academic Performance of the Year award for its excellence in the classroom. Senior Sarah Balian and sophomore Rachel Semansky earned Capital One/CoSIDA All-District VII Academic honors, while Seidensticker was one of 40 MSU Awards of Excellence honorees. In all five Bobcats, Balian, Semansky, Seidensticker, Katie Bussey, and Chelsea Banis claimed Big Sky Conference All-Academic kudos.
Head coach Tricia Binford's squad completed the awards ceremony winning the A.L.L. Challenge Women's Team Performance of the Year by virtue of its ten-game winning streak, which included notable victories at BYU and Montana.
“When you look at the entire scope of our season, it amazes me what these student-athletes have achieved,” Binford said. “We couldn't be anymore proud of their efforts and we had outstanding leadership from our upperclassmen.”
The Bobcat women will wrap-up its 2010-11 season on a foreign trip to Costa Rica beginning on Wednesday. The team has had eight practices during the spring season in preparation for the trip, which will see games against the Costa Rican National Team, as well as professional and club programs.
