Bussey Named Big Sky Co-Player of the Week

After averaging 23.5 points and eight rebounds per game over the weekend, Katie Bussey was recognized by the Big Sky Conference on Monday afternoon.
Montana State's Katie Bussey and Portland State's Courtney VanBrocklin have been named Co-Big Sky Players of the Week for games played the week of Jan. 31 - Feb. 6.
This is Bussey's second award this season and the first for VanBrocklin.
Bussey, a junior from Alamosa, Colo., averaged 23.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game to lift the Bobcats to a pair home victories and move back atop the Big Sky Conference standings. Against Northern Arizona, Bussey had a season-high 28 points, including 24 points on 8-of-12 shooting and five three-pointers all in the second half.
She followed that performance with a game-high 19 points against Weber State, 13 of which came in the second stanza. In addition, she averaged 3.0 assists and a steal on the weekend and went 14-of-16 from the line.
VanBrocklin helped Portland State to a 2-0 record last week. The sophomore averaged 17.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals for the week. She shot 12-of-20 from the field, 3-of-4 from 3-point range and 8-of-10 at the free throw line. The guard had just three turnovers in 60 minutes of action.
On Thursday, she tallied 17 points, five boards, four assists, one steal and one blocked shot in PSU's 92-74 victory over Sacramento State. She led the Vikings to a 67-60 victory over first-place Northern Colorado on Saturday, scoring 18 points and grabbing five rebounds.
