“Idaho State came out of halftime and wanted it more than we did,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “Their 13-0 run was the clincher. I didn't think we were a very veteran team.”
Montana State (15-11, 9-3) jumped out to an early seven-point lead, before Idaho State (16-8, 7-4) rallied to enter halftime with a 38-37 point advantage.
ISU held the Bobcats scoreless for the first five minutes of the second half before a Lyndi Seidensticker triple ended the drought. Idaho State built a 19-point lead with 8:14 remaining, before Montana State cut the margin to nine points to finish the game.
“We weren't making very good decisions,” Binford said. “I thought we made some poor choices not finding the hot hand.”
MSU sophomore Rachel Semansky had the hot hand for the Bobcats finishing with a game-high 23 points, connecting on eight-of-12 from the field.
Also in double-digit scoring for MSU were Katie Bussey 12 and Seidensticker 11.
MSU finished the game shooting 33 percent and held a 46-37 rebounding advantage, as well. Senior Sarah Balian paced the Bobcats under the glass with 12 rebounds.
With the loss, the Bobcats slip into a first place tie with Northern Colorado atop the Big Sky Conference standings.
ISU was paced in the win by Kaela Oakes with 22 points, including four 3-pointers.
MSU will host Eastern Washington next Thursday.
