Bobcat Women Host UM Western in Shroyer Gym

The Montana State women’s basketball team will open its regular-season home slate, Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m., in Shroyer Gym. The game is being moved to accommodate a concert in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. The Bobcats will be back in the fieldhouse, Sunday, Nov. 20 when it hosts the College of Idaho at 2 p.m

HOME OPENER:
The Montana State women's basketball team will open its regular-season home slate, Thursday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m., in Shroyer Gym. CAT CHAT:
The Bobcats opened their 2011-12 campaign splitting a pair of road games in Oregon. Montana State opened with a 66-53 win at Portland. Katie Bussey led all scorers with 22 points, while adding six assists and three rebounds. Rachel Semansky notched 21 points and hauled down 11 rebounds and Ashley Albert added nine points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals. As a team, the Bobcats shot 50 percent from the field and held a +6 advantage under the boards. On Sunday, MSU dropped an 83-53 decision to Pac-12 foe Oregon State in historic Gill Coliseum. The Bobcats had four players in double-figures led by Semansky 12, Bussey 11, Albert 10 and true-freshman Kalli Durham 10.
SNEAK PEAK:
UM Western enters Thursday's game with a 7-0 mark, including an 80-68 win over the College of Idaho. The College of Idaho is 2-3 overall.
TIME TO GET BUSSEY:
Senior Katie Bussey has already established herself as Montana State's all-time three-point makes queen. Bussey will continue to add on to her school record, which currently stands at 188 treys. The mark also ranks ninth on the all-time Big Sky Conference chart. The league mark of 238 is held by Chelsey Warburton, who played at Weber State from 2004-07. Bussey will have a good shot at breaking the conference mark as she has averaged 60 makes per season during her tenure in the Blue and Gold. A two-time All Big Sky performer and the 2008-09 Big Sky Freshman of the Year, Bussey will also move up the MSU all-time scoring ladder this season, as well. Her current total of 1,223 points ranks 13th overall at Montana State. Last season, she posted 24 double-figure scoring games. Her career-high of 30 points was set against Pacific, Nov, 15, 2009. Last weekend, the 5-9 native of Alamosa, Colo., averaged 16.5 points and 4.0 assists per game. Bussey had a weekend best 22 points in MSU's win over Portland.
THE PRIDE OF HIGHWOOD:
Junior Rachel Semansky, a first-team All Big Sky selection last winter, picked up where she left off on the Oregon trip. The 6-foot forward from Highwood, Mont., recorded a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds in MSU's season-opening victory at Portland. For the weekend, Semansky averaged 16.5 points and 8.5 rebounds, while shooting 58 percent from the field. Last season, Semansky finished second in Big Sky games in scoring, rebounding, field-goal percentage and steals. The pride of Highwood posted a career-high 26 points at Northern Arizona on Jan. 15, 2011 and has hauled down a career-best 13 rebounds on three occasions, the last coming against Weber State.
CHELSEA, LATELY:
Sophomore Chelsea Banis returns to the Bobcat lineup after missing 15 Big Sky Conference games last winter due to a torn MCL. Prior to the injury, Banis had established herself as one of the top freshman in the Big Sky averaging 12.6 points and 5.9 rebounds, while shooting 55 percent from the field. Banis recorded a career-high 28 points at Utah Valley on Jan. 1, 2011. Last weekend, the Fairfield, Mont., native averaged 5.5 points and 5.5 rebounds. In MSU's win over Portland, the 6-foot-4 center notched seven points and pulled down five rebounds.
DOUBLE A:
Sophomore Ashley Albert, a 6-foot-1 forward from Hamilton, Mont., also returns to the Montana State lineup after missing all of the 2010-11 season with a torn ACL. As a freshman, Albert averaged 6.3 points and 3.0 rebounds, while shooting 42 percent from the floor. She had her best outings two years ago against Portland State. Albert had a career-high 16 points against the Vikings on Feb. 13, 2010, and pulled down a career-best 10 boards against PSU on Jan. 8, 2010. Last weekend, Albert averaged 9.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. She posted 9 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block in Montana State's season-opening win at the University of Portland.
SWISHA:
Junior Latisha Adams has transitioned into the starting point-guard role, which gives the Bobcats added size at the spot. Last season, the 5-foot-9 native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, played in 25 games and averaged 2.8 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists, while logging 14.8 minutes per con-test. Adams recorded a career-high 11 points at Weber State on Jan. 17, 2011, connecting on four-of-six from the field. In addition, she pulled down a career-high seven rebounds against Sacramento State and dished out a season-high six assists against the Hornets, as well. Last weekend, Adams averaged 5.5 points and 5.0 rebounds. She had five points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals at Portland.
