Montana State Hoopsters Get Past Mary in Exhibition

Montana State sophomore Ashley Albert posted a game-high 17 points to lead four Bobcats in double-figures as MSU recorded a 66-54 exhibition victory over the University of Mary, Saturday night in Worthington Arena.

Montana State sophomore Ashley Albert posted a game-high 17 points to lead four Bobcats in double-figures as MSU recorded a 66-54 exhibition victory over the University of Mary, Saturday night in Worthington Arena.
Also in double-digits for the Bobcats were Chelsea Banis 16, Rachel Semansky 13, and Katie Bussey 10. Semansky notched the only double-double of the game adding a team-high 13 rebounds.
“The first half is what I expected,” said MSU seventh-year head coach Tricia Binford. “We had some good play, and some okay play.
“In the second half, we got a nice lead and then lost our focus,” Binford added. “I thought Mary outplayed us and was more aggressive in the final ten minutes of the game.”
Behind 12 first-half points from Albert, Montana State built a 36-19 advantage at intermission.
The Bobcats pushed its lead to 56-32 following a Bussey jumper with 9:32 remaining. The Marauders cut the margin in half at the final buzzer.
Mary was paced by Ali Collins with 14 points.
“There wasn't much flow to our offense in the second half,” Binford said. “We have some things to clean up and we need to do better with our shot selection.”
For the game, MSU shot 33 percent from the field and connected on nine-of-30 attempts from three-point range.
Montana State will host Carroll College in its final exhibition game of the preseason on Nov. 4.
