Golf Finishes Sixth at Big Sky Championships

Montana State golfers finished up the third round of the Big Sky Conference Championships in sixth place.
MSU fired a three-day score of 941. Portland State edged out Sacramento State by two strokes to win the tourney, and was six storkes ahead of favorite Northern Arizona. NAU freshman Stephanie Kim won medalist honors with an even-par 216 for the three-day event.
"I am really pleased with how they played," MSU head coach Leslie Spalding said, "especially considering nobody on our team had ever played in this event before. I am pleased with their talent and I know they learned a lot this week. We really have something to look forward to."
The MSU squad consisted of three freshman, one sophmore and one junior. Freshman Melissa Hulstrand placed eighth with a score of 228, 12-over par.
"Melissa played really well," Spalding said. "She found that conisistency she has been looking for."
