Montana State Women Snap Six-Game Losing Streak

The Montana State women’s basketball team returned from a 10-day hiatus with a fast start and a solid zone defense to notch a 75-61 victory over Cal State Bakersfield, Monday night in Worthington Arena.

The win snapped a six-game Bobcat losing streak.
Montana State (3-8) jumped out to an early 20-5 advantage at the 11:21 mark of the opening period on an Emily Allen triple. The Bobcats built the margin to 44-22 at intermission behind eight three-pointers.
“We had good energy during our shoot-around earlier in the day and that carried over into the game,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “We were able to knock some shots down early and that gave us the momentum we needed.”
MSU took its largest lead at 53-24 with 17:07 remaining on a Sarah Balian basket.
Cal State Bakersfield (8-7) rattled off a 20-5 run over the next seven minutes to pull to within 58-44, but would get no closer.
Lyndi Seidensticker posted a game-high 17 points for the Bobcats, while Balian 15 and Rachel Semansky 14 also hit double-figures.
Balian and Seidensticker also recorded a double-double as both posted career-highs in rebounds with 17 and 10 boards, respectively.
“I thought we had a great effort under the boards and it was nice to see Sarah and Lyndi leading the way,” Binford said. “It was also nice to see us cut down on the turnovers in the second half.”
Freshman Ausha Cole received her first start as a Bobcat and notched a season-high seven assists, while committing just three miscues.
For the game, MSU shot 36 percent from the field, including a 47 percent (8-17) effort from three-point range in the opening stanza.
The Roadrunners were led by Breana Fields with 13 points and three rebounds.
MSU will host Pacific on Wednesday night in Worthington Arena.
